Meeting the Infamous Gulch

We had the opportunity on Saturday to visit for the first time the Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement facility. What a thrill to meet On The Point’s great grandfather- Grandpa Gulch. He looks amazing for 30 years! Apparently, he knows he’s King and will only grace you with his presence if he deems you worthy. Lucky for us, he must have liked us and was an absolute gentleman. I’m convinced that Point Given’s confidence came from Gulch. Gulch is special and I felt such an overwhelming respect for him. Evidently, the Queen of England knows just how special he is as she has requested a private visitation with him any time she visits Lexington.

When I visited Thunder Gulch two years ago, I loved him as well! What a pleasant and calm horse he was. There is something about these Three Amigos ( Gulch, Thunder Gulch and Point Given) that I’m drawn to and I feel so blessed to have a great grand daughter and 2x great grand daughter out of Gulch.

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed visiting the other horses and hearing their stories. Old Friends does an amazing job caring for these special horses who so richly deserve our admiration. Hats off to Old Friends and their work. John and Beth gave an awesome tour. Thanks for the memories- We will be back! Below are pics of Gulch.

Hope- 3 mos old

When we visited Dream and Hope on June 2nd, we noticed that Hope is mindful of her mother. We learned that Dream has been aggressive over the food up until now and forces Hope into the opposite corner of the stall while she eats. She is just now allowing Hope to feed along side. The same thing was noticed with Rudy. Dream has always loved food and nothing comes between her and that feed bucket! Nevertheless, Hope looks good and continues to grow. Dream will be out of her 1st trimester about the middle of this month so maybe she is just crabby! Below are a few pics taken of them during our visit.
