Meeting the Infamous Gulch

We had the opportunity on Saturday to visit for the first time the Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement facility. What a thrill to meet On The Point’s great grandfather- Grandpa Gulch. He looks amazing for 30 years! Apparently, he knows he’s King and will only grace you with his presence if he deems you worthy. Lucky for us, he must have liked us and was an absolute gentleman. I’m convinced that Point Given’s confidence came from Gulch. Gulch is special and I felt such an overwhelming respect for him. Evidently, the Queen of England knows just how special he is as she has requested a private visitation with him any time she visits Lexington.

When I visited Thunder Gulch two years ago, I loved him as well! What a pleasant and calm horse he was. There is something about these Three Amigos ( Gulch, Thunder Gulch and Point Given) that I’m drawn to and I feel so blessed to have a great grand daughter and 2x great grand daughter out of Gulch.

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed visiting the other horses and hearing their stories. Old Friends does an amazing job caring for these special horses who so richly deserve our admiration. Hats off to Old Friends and their work. John and Beth gave an awesome tour. Thanks for the memories- We will be back! Below are pics of Gulch.
