Defining Purpose’s maiden race was at Keeneland on 10/20/2022. She had a
troubled first time out and was pushed 6 wide and subsequently used up her
energy stores to finish 5th that day to Pure Pauline and John Velasquez.
Then, on 11/17/2022, Defining Purpose broke her maiden at second asking
setting the pace and winning wire to wire by 5 lengths. Just nine days later,
Defining Purpose found herself running in the Grade II Golden Rod on 11/26/2022
to face a very game field of fillies and the favorite Hoosier Philly.
Again, she was forced wide, but managed to continue charging down the stretch to finish 5th , just missing second place by 1 1/4 lengths to the winner Hoosier Philly.
The year ended quite literally with a bang as Defining Purpose became a black
type stakes winner, winning the Inaugural Year’s End Stakes on 12/31/2022 at
Oaklawn. She broke from post one to claim a 5-length lead at the wire. She and
David Cabrera made quite an impressive team!
