On the Point delivered a lovely, leggy Wicked Strong filly born about 5pm on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Dr. Beam’s Midwest Equine & Veterinary Hospital. She appears to be a chestnut filly. She’s scopey with a beautiful neck and head. Looking forward to seeing how she develops! She keeps On The Point quite busy these days by running laps around her mother.
Hope has been at Margaux Farm for 4 months now. Her breaking went well and her training is progressing nicely. She has been jogging and galloping 6 furlongs and is on night turn out. She is a little excitable when the rider first gets on her, but is learning to settle. I plan to visit next week to see her progress.
The trainer describes her as an honest, genuine filly who likes to please. He says she is independent, and intelligent, but not stubborn. She likes to learn her lessons completely before learning new things. They plan to start gate training 2x/wk this next week. Pictures below taken last month.
Doc called Weds 2/17 to let me know that On The Point was in foal to Strong Hope with a foaling date of 1/6/2017! I guess the weather and mother nature worked in her favor this year. I’m so pleased the breeding went well.On The Point was born to be a broodmare.
So encouraged by the news this past weekend that California Chrome won Champion 3 yr old and HOY honors. Go Chrome! Looking forward to seeing what he does as he begins his 4th yr campaign this year.
This year marked the 3rd Annual Derby Day at my house. I started it as a fun way to introduce my family to the racing fever. By inspiring the upcoming generations in my family, I hope that horse racing will become a fun passion they will remember into their adulthood. To make it feel all the more “official”, we walked and were photographed on the red carpet before feasting on fine food and sipping on mint julips. My granddaughter and nieces enjoyed a silly string fight with Uncle Mike who also served as official photographer. An honor bestowed upon him for three years and counting! There was even wagering and some funny surprises. Derby Day is my favorite day of the year. One that I look forward to all year long as it kicks off the Triple Crown races. Yes, Orb and Revolutionary were among my choices but so were Oxbow and Will Take Charge. All fine horses indeed. As we approach the Preakness, we wait and hope in anticipation as Orb tries to make history. Godspeed.
